Actually, I've always thought those who could only envision a grim, desolate future had some childhood issues that they never really dealt with. I'm seeing a pretty fabulous place in 20 years. Ideas will be the commodity of greatest value. The air will be fresh and crisp. Cars will hover in mid-air. And video games? Well, now we're talking fun.
?
Just look at what's available today in the gaming arena if you want a clue about tomorrow. We've already got hyper-realistic graphics dancing before our eyes in high-def. We've got intricate, thought-provoking gaming stories that are the envy of Hollywood. And the motion-sensing tech currently being released is shockingly accurate. Add it all up, my friends, and we've got the building blocks for that virtual reality that everybody's been dreaming of since a tiny digital blip first bounced off an analog-dialed Pong paddle.
?
Tomorrow, the couch potato complaints of gaming will have been long dispensed with. No sitting around with a controller in one hand and a bag of snacks in the other. In fact, game controllers will be museum items. (Snacks, however, will be mandatory.) When your character runs up a hill, kicks a football or rides a horse, it'll be your thigh muscles flexing.
?
The gaming console, game discs and brick-and-mortar game stores? History. Everything will be fully integrated and instantly downloadable into the liquid-cooled, wraparound, music-video-movie-Internet entertainment package that'll be the norm in every home. And while you're thinking your way through your game, your game will be thinking, too?trying to outfox you at every turn.
?
In fact, the gaming smarts will likely go far beyond that. Games will remember your particular set of preferences. Oh, yes. You want the hard driving, athletic version of a game? You got it. You want to make sure your kids never stumble into another bloody scene or ear-burning chunk of dialogue? Yes, sir. You want a virtual tour of the latest family-friendly fare conducted personally by a 3-D holographic representative of a Plugged In staff member? You bet. So, what technological wizardry are you looking forward to?
