A new type of law firm is recruiting personal injury claimants to help
shape the way legal services are delivered to injury victims.
Acorn Law says it will ?put the personal back into personal injury? and
is looking for people to join its advisory panel who can bring their
experiences of making a claim to help make the process better for future
claimants.
The advisory panel will provide insight into the claims process from the
victim?s point of view and will sit alongside other members from the
claims process, including barristers, solicitors and medical
professionals.
?Our solicitors have many years? personal injury experience but we do
not presume to know exactly how it feels to experience the claims
process. Only by understanding the views of those that have been through
a claim, can we deliver a service that is truly designed for the
claimant,? says Acorn?s Chief executive David Green.
The advisory panel will meet twice a year to help design a process that
is responsive to victims? needs. Their first task will be to draft a
Client Charter.
Acorn Law is the first law firm set up in direct response to the
government?s decision to ban referral fees in personal injury cases,
even though the ban will not come into force until April next year. In a
market where the vast majority of law firms pay up to GBP 800 to receive a
case from a claims management company, Acorn Law will neither pay
referral fees nor charge referral fees to business it refers to,
bringing an end to the so-called referral fee merry-go-round.
Former personal injury claimants who are interested in becoming a member
of the Acorn Advisory Panel, should write to the firm, explaining in
less than 350 words what they can bring to the panel, either by email

Advisory panel members will sit for two years. Travel costs and other
expenses incurred by attending panel meetings will be reimbursed.
Additionally, each panel member will also receive a donation to a
personal injury charity of their choice at the end of their tenure.

Referral fees ban
The government announced on 9th September, 2011 that it will
ban referral fees for personal injury work. The ban is planned to come
in to force as part of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of
Offenders Bill in April 2013.
