With Strikeforce ending after Saturday night's card, there are several fighters on the roster who face uncertain futures. Some fighters, like Derek Brunson and Tyron Woodley, have already crossed over to the UFC. Other fighters, like the ones listed here, are locks to stick within the Zuffa family and will go to the UFC. But there are others who are not definite to make the UFC roster, and who could help bolster Bellator, the World Series of Fighting and other promotions.
One of the biggest complaints Strikeforce fighters had, particularly in the past year, was that they just didn't fight enough. Too few fights meant too few fight purses, and finances were tough for fighters who had just one bout in a year. Bellator offers a ton of events throughout the year, and they need fighters to fill these cards. WSOF is just getting started, and could use fighters with name recognition. Strikeforce's fighters can be the perfect ones to pick up the slack.
But the chance at more fights doesn't make everything rosy for Strikeforce fighters looking for work. As in any job market, too many potential workers means wages for fighters will be driven down. Fighters won't have the upper hand in negotiating with promotions because there aren't as many options for them.
And there is also the chance that neither Bellator nor the WSOF will sign the former Strikeforce fighters. Bellator's tournaments for this season are already stocked. WSOF is taking things one card at a time, and may not have the money to sink into splashy signings.
No matter what happens, Strikeforce's end means some promotions will gain, but fighters are put into tough positions.
